History for the preservationist: According to the Spokane Portland and Seattle Web Museum, "
the SP&S was not allowed to have custom china, all of the china patterns were open stock patterns. This extended to the first order of the Northern Dogwood pattern, which was to have been backmarked. By the time the china was shipped, the backmark had been cancelled.
The Northern Dogwood was a stock pattern made by Shenango China, Inc. The pattern used on the SPS had green leaves, brownish stems, white blossoms with red highlights at petal ends and yellow centers."
Since the Northern Dogwood Pattern was a stock pattern it is not possible to say that this set saw use on the railroad. It literally could have been used at any institutional food service establishment.
