    SMITH-ROSS SPACE-STATION
    Plans for an ambitious manned space-station were put
    forward by two British engineers, R. A. Smith and
    H. E. Ross, of the British Interplanetary Society, in
    1950, who also described the technique of carrying
    up the parts by ferry rocket.
    The station has a large bowl for collecting the Sun's
    rays to heat a working fluid ad provide a source of
    power. It also has laboratories, a telescope, living
    quarters and a radar array.
