1947-1952 BRITISH INTERPLANETARY SOCIETY JOURNALS, 23 issues, Arthur Clarke Era
1947-1952 BRITISH INTERPLANETARY SOCIETY JOURNALS, 23 issues, Arthur Clarke Era
JOURNAL OF THE BRITISH INTERPLANETARY SOCIETY
, 23 issues, (London, Sept. 1947-Nov. 1952, incomplete) Softbound in original wrappers. Illustrated with photographs, graphs and charts. 20 to 50 pages each.
The British Interplanetary Society was founded in the early 1930s, its first two decades of speculative pre-Space Age writing led by future science fiction author Arthur Clarke, future author of the classic
    2001, A Space Odyssey
.  By the early 1950's the articles were more practical and the contributions became increasingly technical, much of the subject matter focusing on rocketry and the imminent launch of artificial earth satellites, as well as informed discussions of space law, radio exploration of the universe, extraterrestrial mining, psychological aspects of space travel, simulation of artificial gravity, and the mounting knowledge of the moon and Mars.
We are offering a large collection of these Journals in two groups.  This first group contains some of the more scarce issues from the late 1940s and early 1950s.  Specifically:
    1947: Sept.; 1948:
Jan., May, Sept., Nov.; 1949:  Jan., March, July, Sept., Nov.; 1950: May, July, Sept., Nov.; 1951: Jan., May, July, Sept.; 1952, Jan., Mar, May, Sept., Nov.
The Journals are generally in Good to Very Good condition. Some have front cover signatures or date stamps; a few have and rubberstamps from the Library of the RAND Corporation "think tank" and the Giannini Research Laboratory Library. Only one has three holes punched at the spine.
(Please see also our Ebay listing of the second group of Journals, 31 issues from March 1953 to December 1958)
